I have been drooling over the loveliness that you find in garden centres to decorate your gardens. The non-plant type of stuff. Things like these. But I could not warrant spending money on this sort of stuff. Then I noticed all the bits of broken fence that we had piled up ready to burnt one evening and an idea popped into my head.
I got my daughter on board and set to work. First breaking them into manageable pieces, taking out nails, then giving them a good scrub with a wire brush...
Next it was time to get the left over match pot paints that we kept (just in case for projects like these!)
Then to give it that slightly vintage look, a bit of sanding after the paint had dried...
I gave my daughter the job of researching some nice garden sign phrases, and then I got to work painting them on. I did lightly pencil first so that I would have reasonable spacing, you could go all out and make perfect lettering, but I was happy with the very home made look. Then it was a matter of spraying with varnish ....
Some left over bent nail things, to make the perfect hanging loops...
I used some waxed beading cord for hanging them and then got hanging.....
I love the fact that I no longer have masses of new brown fence without flowers or adornment. In time they will have more flowers growing up over them, but for now I am happy with these simple no cost signs.
